This week appears to be the week of the burpees. They just keep on coming and with a vengeance. But, it's re-sparked some conversation that we've had at the Fort. More on that in just a moment. Today, we all rolled in and were greeted with a WOD of Cleans for 3 sets of 3. Like I alluded to in yesterday's post, Coach Zach had to move to "plan b" because the weather wasn't cooperating.

So, while we could have done Cleans and then went to "plan b" for the METCON, Zach decided to stay true to CFF programming and change the entire WOD altogether. It's consistent with Wild Bill's approach as well. Hey, that's how we roll at our box. If you don't like it, come back tomorrow and it's on the board. Weather once again permitting.
For some reason or another, we all seemed to be just a bit...uhh..."off" today. Pete's nagging shoulder wasn't quite right and he chose to stay away from cleans to continue his rehab doing other various skill work. Garth claimed to feel full of energy but still was a bit sore from previous WOD's. I was lagging and tired and trying like hell to wake up. Super Dave had a nasty headache and elected to stay in the wrapper and get some extra rest. And so, on and so on. However, it still doesn't change the fact that we all came in and worked hard. Season, Nate, Stephanie and Brice all were in "their zone" and working on their technique. Great to see their focus.
From there, we moved into the METCON which was to be done in teams of 2. Since we had an uneven number of people in today's class (READ: We blame Super Dave for not being there this morning to help balance out the teams) we had one team with 3 team members: Pete, Garth, Tom. The challenge was very straight forward:
Team METCON
- Tire Drag (25% of body weight)
- 100 Team Burpees
* One team member does 1 tire drag while the other does AMrAP for Burpees
All teams scaled correctly but Pete, Garth and myself had to do 50 more burpees since we had 3 people. Fine by me - I love burpees. Bring 'em on! Overall, a great challenge and you saw some HUGE efforts. Specifically, did anyone see Nate's last 10M on his final pull to beat the 10:00 DNF? From out of somewhere - literally nowhere - the man found a 32nd wind and trucked it to the finish line like Usain Bolt. One word: IMPRESSIVE!
"I'm not saying it's not going to be hard. I'm just saying it's not impossible. The impossible factor is what I am arguing." - Pete
After we finished the METCON, the core members of the GYG once again revisited the discussion around "how many burpees can be done in 1 minute?" The box records stands at 33. Petecontinues to debate the fact that 40 is possible while Garth calls it impossible. Me? I'm not completely sold that it's possible. So, we did the math very quickly:
60 seconds / 40 burpees = 1.5 seconds per burpee
Then we put it to a test. One at a time, we all did 5 seconds of burpees to see how many could be done in such a short time span. Here's the results:
--> Coach Zach = 2.75 Burpees (was just standing up)
--> Pete= 4
--> Garth = 3
--> Tom = 4
Hrmmmm. Now Pete's side of the debate becomes even more interesting:
5 seconds / 4 burpees = 1.25 seconds per burpee
60 seconds / 1.25 seconds per burpee = 48 burpees in 1 minute
Pete immediately spoke up: "That's like 50 burpees in a minute!" Close, it's 48 but then again we at the GYG aren't very good at math at 6AM in the morning. It's like George Bush math actually. Just sayin'.So, the question remains: "Is 40 burpees possible in 60 seconds?" More specifically, can any of us at the Fort accomplish 40 burpees in a minute? I sense a challenge coming very soon!
--> Gang Member of the Day: Nate
I mean, seriously! You gotta' give this guy credit for his effort in the METCON. When any one of us cheered him on, he responded. But, it was his last tire drag and the final 10M when he kicked it into "rocket like" speed that showeed his heart. Awesome, Nate! Nice Job!
Nice work today, peeps. Thanks for the blast!
